The battalions were made up of convicted officers. They were given a chance to atone for their crimes or incompetence with blood, being assigned to the lowest ranks in the troops, who were given the most dangerous tasks. Although there are many rumors and legends about the penal battalions of the USSR, Men of War: Condemned Heroes tells the truth about them, based on the testimonies and evidence of their former fighters.

Lead a penal battalion and lead it to victory at any cost, surviving the decisive events of the war on the Eastern Front. Take part in the desperate battles of 1942 near Volyn in Ukraine, the large-scale Operation Bagration near Brest, fight for a bridgehead in the village of Mangush, for Warsaw in Poland, and then break into the German Altdamm and Stettin.
